Ex-Army medic calls for better care after combat
I would have been better off had I lost a limb
A senior British Army medic, who was nicknamed Florence of Arabia and awarded the nursing Victoria Cross, says she's been completely abandoned by the Ministry of Defence after suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Lieutenant Colonel Janet Pilgrim was recognised by the Queen for her work running a field hospital in Basra, but ended up in an unsuitable NHS psychiatric facility and was discharged from the army.
She says people like her need far better help from the MoD and wants a dedicated mental health unit for military personnel.
