British fighter Tornado jets take off from RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus
Four British fighter Tornado jets took off from RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus early on Thursday morning shortly after Britain's parliament voted to bomb Islamic State targets in Syria.
The destination of the two jets was not immediately clear and there was no comment from British authorities.
ITV News International Affairs Editor Rageh Omaar reports:
RAF Akrotiri has been used as a launchpad for attacks on Islamic State targets in Iraq for just over a year, and late on Wednesday the Commons broadened its scope for targetting targets in Syria.
It's expected additional Typhoon jets from RAF Lossiemouth in northeast Scotland will join the RAF Tornados currently operating out of RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus
