RAF Tornados could be carrying out missions over Syria by Thursday morning

We do not know for sure what the Ministry of Defence has planned if there is a vote tonight in support of David Cameron's motion.

But it seems the RAF Tornados could be carrying out what's called "targeted reconnaissance" missions by tomorrow morning.

They will be seeking to find targets - often moving ones - which will contribute to the planned degradation of IS operations.

It would be the first time the Tornado jets will have been flying combat missions in Syrian airspace - although UK drones and other aircraft have been carrying out surveillance missions over Syria and sharing the intelligence with the US and French.

It's expected additional Typhoon jets from RAF Lossiemouth in northeast Scotland will join the RAF Tornados currently operating out of RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus - shortly after a successful motion in the House of Commons, should one occur tonight.
