It's wartime and the Germans are closing in on Paris. Donald Maclean falls in love with an American, Melinda, and hurriedly marries her so that she can escape with him and the British embassy staff.

Now able to pass secrets on to Moscow, it's not long before the CIA suspects Maclean.

Maclean is able to pass nuclear secrets on to Moscow, and as a result the Soviets are able to detonate their first atomic bomb. The CIA narrows down their suspects and Maclean is on the list. Philby realises that if one falls they all fall.
