Be A Best Seller
This is a FANTASTIC opportunity to help develop potential that is already there
To celebrate Book Month, we are launching a nationwide search to find the next potential writing star as part of a new, exciting This Morning competition Be A Best Seller.
A panel of judges including award-winning Irish novelist Marian Keyes, presenter and actress Caroline Quentin and agent and joint CEO of Curtis Brown Jonny Geller are here to tell us all about the competition and their aim to discover a writing superstar in the making.
The prize is a free place on a Curtis Brown Creative six month novel-writing course and representation from Curtis Brown for your winning novel.
How to enter
The opening of your novel-in-progress must be a maximum of 3,000 words, a minimum 2,500
It MUST be the very beginning of the novel, which includes any prologue
A one-page synopsis – this should give the broad outline of the story
A cover sheet which clearly carries your name, postal address, telephone number (daytime) and email address (if applicable) plus the title of the novel (if known)
Your novel must be your own work – original to you and not infringing the copyright of any third party
You must be working on a novel – not a short story, not a work of non-fiction
Your novel must be unpublished
You must be at least 18 years of age
Please send as a word or PDF document and attach to your email.
Things to check before you send in your work: Try as far as you can to set out your work like the pages of a published book (not a business letter or similar) – ie, indent your paragraphs, set your dialogue out correctly with a new line for each new speaker. Use a font size that’s not too tiny and 1.5 or double spacing between the lines. Check that your word count does not exceed 3,000 (excluding title)
Email your work to
The judges will select up to five entrants, who will be invited to the live final on 27 November where two runners-up and a winner will be announced. The winning writer will win a place on one of the UK's most successful writing courses (for six months) and representation by top Literary Agency Curtis Brown.
PLEASE NOTE: A few people have asked us for clarification on the rights position for our Be A Bestseller Competition. To reassure you, as an entrant, you will grant us permission to use your entry and participation for the competition and for related purposes but you still own the underlying rights. There is a moral rights waiver in the terms as we may adapt your work for putting it on air or online and this waiver means we can do this. We have run other writing competitions and this is a standard position to allow us to make our programmes.
You need to be 18 or over to apply. Entry closes at midday on 14 November 2014. Terms at This Morning Be A Bestseller Competition: Interaction Information
