Are your costumes all ready for World Book Day?
Tomorrow is World Book Day. If you haven't managed to rustle up an outfit for your children never fear as mum of two Katy Hill is here with four homemade outfits you can conjure up this very afternoon. Plus, below is some you can buy from supermarkets if you really are in a rush!
THE WHITE RABBIT – ALICE IN WONDERLAND
You will need: 2 x A3 white card, red paint, white netting, ribbon, headband, alarm clock.
Draw large hearts on each piece of card and paint red. Attach ribbon to each piece of card to create a sandwich board.
For the collar, cut a 75cm square of white netting and then fold into three. Create a fan effect from the netting and then sew to secure the semicircle. Cut around 80cm of ribbon and sew to the netting to create the neck ties.
For the ears, take one headband and create ear shapes using white card. Fasten to headband.
Attach a length of ribbon to your alarm clock to create a necklace.
MR TWIT – THE TWITS
You will need: 1 x brown wig, elastic, cornflakes, yellow sponge, cardboard, tinfoil.
Cut the wig so it lays flat and then cut a hole for the mouthpiece.
Glue the cornflakes to the beard, along with small pieces of yellow sponge.
Cut fish shapes out of cardboard, cover in tinfoil and then and glue to the beard.
Make two holes either side of the beard, and then thread through elastic so it can be tied to the face.
THE CAT IN THE HAT
You will need: Black long sleeve top, white paint, A2 piece of red card, red paper, red ribbon.
Draw a circle on the tummy of the black long sleeve top and paint white.
For the hat, roll your A2 piece of card and secure with tape. Next, stencil round the top of the hat onto the red paper and cut out the circle. Tape to the top of the hat.
For the rim of the hat, cut 1 inch length slits, evenly spaced around the hat, fold outwards and secure with tape.
Lastly, create a bow out of the red ribbon, which will be fastened around the neck.
DODGER – OLIVER TWIST
You will need: Flat cap, waistcoat, old trousers, lengths of fabric.
Cut zig-zag edges around the bottom of the t-shirt and the trousers to create ragged clothing.
Take your fabric and cut out an assortment of shapes in different sizes.
Glue these pieces of fabric to the flat cap, trousers and waistcoat.
From the spare fabric, cut a long strip shape, which will create a necktie.
