Trophy hunting on UK soil: Shoot a rare deer for £9K
Many of us were shocked by the foreign footage of an elephant being shot over the weekend, but it seems the idea of trophy hunting is happening a lot closer to home - in Bedfordshire to be exact.
Foreign travel firms are charging £9,000 to shoot a grade A red deer stag (recognised for its large antlers) and Chinese water deer (quoted by the travel firm as: ‘a “must for every trophy collection”).
Woburn Abbey Deer Park say although it’s not associated with the travel companies, it does participate in culls to ensure the “continued health and welfare of all the deer within the park.”
The news has shocked animal welfare groups like League Against Cruel Sports: their Director of Campaigns, Chris Luffingham joins us live in the studio, meanwhile, deerstalker Charlie Jacoby says so what? It’s a genuine hobby and no one is committing a crime.
