Transgender firefighter nominated for Woman of the Year
She's used to rescuing people from burning buildings and previously served time in the Royal Marines, but for 44-year-old dad of two Katie Cornhill, those duties were nothing compared to telling friends and colleagues the true identity that she'd struggled with from the age of five.
Having undergone gender reassignment surgery last year, Katie is now an inspiring role model and has even been nominated for Services' Woman of the Year - changing the perception surrounding gender in the fire service.
