Just when you’ve got used to your air fryer, it looks like there’s a new must-have kitchen gadget in town! The pressure cooker is better than ever, with new versions promising to streamline your cooking, using 70% less energy than a regular saucepan on the hob. But are they worth investing in? Suzanne Mulholland has her guide to the gadget.
Advantages of pressure cookers
Pressure cookers work like slow cookers but are much faster. The lid keeps all the steam in so everything cooks much quicker meaning you are reducing the amount of energy that you use.
You use on average half the amount of energy that normal cooking.
It retains all the nutrients and minerals as everything is contained and cooks quicker, locking in goodness from veggies.
One pot meals, they help to save on washing up and mess as they are all in one.
Cons of pressure cookers
The multifunctions on the big electric pressure cookers can be a little bit overwhelming.
You have to be wary of the steam that escapes out the top, especially with a ninja or instant pot. The steam has been contained for the whole cooking time so when released it fires out hot steam so don't stand over the top of it.
