The best shorts for summer
It's safe to say that the increase in temperature has been a huge silver lining for us all during lockdown. And as it is expected to hit the mid 20s again over the next week or so, we are looking to swap our jeans and tracksuit bottoms for a great pair of shorts.
Shorts are, typically, quite hard to shop for. Team this with not being able to try before you buy and it seems intimidating to purchase a pair now. Fear not! We've (virtually) searched high and low to find a pair for everyone.
Amber's perfect pink pair
Disclaimer: these shorts are not for the faint hearted/first time shorts wearer! But, this bold and feminine pair are a powerful statement worth making. Bright pink is fashion producer Amber's favourite colour, and even thinking about wearing these for a stroll in the park is bringing her a lot of joy. The high-waist cut is super flattering and due to the tailoring on the shorts, they can be worn for both smart and casual dress codes. Pair with a slogan tee and trainers or strappy heels and matching blazer.
Topshop, £39
Sarah's statement 'skort'
As always, we have something for everyone, and have found the perfect solution for those who don't like shorts: the skort. Assistant fashion producer Sarah would always opt for a skirt, however they can sometimes be a bit impractical, especially when at work. This brilliant hybrid with ruffles and zip fastening allows for the illusion of a skirt but the safety of shorts: what's not to love? Sarah would style these with a thin knit, bright coloured jumper to ensure she can wear it from day to night.

Lila's chic city short
Fashion researcher Lila is a recent convert to the city short as they provide solutions for two issues: chafe and body confidence! Lila can't be the only one who feels a tad self-conscious in shorts? Who, especially in warmer climates, experiences thigh chafe? City shorts are the perfect solution, and this pair from recently re-launched Karen Millen are perfect. Lila would wear this pair with a white shirt and white strappy heels!

The cotton short
If you're not convinced yet, perhaps it's because you're not ready to let go of loungewear or comfort? Les Girls Les Boys is the go-to for loungewear, and this pair of shorts have been all over Instagram since lockdown began. They're made from 100% cotton, and are ultra comfortable thanks to the drawstring and elasticated waistband. We recommend you wear them with the matching jumper or simply a t-shirt for the ultimate 'bed to street' look. It's the new beach to bar, don't you know?

The denim short
The icon of every summer wardrobe: the denim short. Levi's has become synonymous with the item due to their high quality fabrics and vintage inspired cuts with a modern twist. We love this pair of mid thigh shorts: they'll define your waist and give you that classic look. Pop on a Breton t-shirt and a pair of sandals to achieve an effortlessly cool look.

The eco pair
When buying an environmentally friendly item of clothing, the price tag does increase. However, this pair is definitely worth it. These shorts from Baum und Pferdgarten, made of recycled and organic cotton, are light, breathable and the perfect way to freshen up your look. Pair with ballet flats and polo tee for the ultimate smart/casual look.
