The best refillable household products, from £3.99
It has to be done, but unfortunately the products we use while cleaning are majorly contributing to the world's plastic problem. Luckily, there is a solution! ‘Refillables’ are on the rise and they not only reduce packaging and plastic waste, but can also help to lower our carbon footprint.
Here are some of our deputy lifestyle producer Emily's top refillable product picks.

Ecover Eco Non Bio Laundry Detergent 5L£18.99, Ocado
The proof is in the name of this laundry detergent. Known for being both environmentally and skincare friendly, this brand has taken their eco crusade to the next level with the new Refill Stations (based all across the UK) and bulk refill-size boxes (from 5l to 15l) so that you can top-up your products from home too.
Grapefruit Washing Up Liquid 1L£3.99, Bower Collective
Another brand that gets double points for its eco-efforts. Once you have used the 1L refillable bag of grapefruit scented washing-up liquid, the pouches can be sent back (using the prepaid postal delivery box) to be washed, refilled and reused.
FILL Bulk Bathroom Liquid 10L£32.10
This British made bulk bathroom liquid has gone for a ‘bag in a box’ option, making it an easy and mess free refill. The brand uses natural ingredients, sustainable packaging and you even get a retro-style reusable glass bottle to get you going.
Spruce Refillable Starter Kit Duo£19.99
The ‘Eternity’ bottles are pretty pastels, and the non-toxic sprays will make your house smell like a spa! But, the real genius is the brand’s refillable approach. You simply mix their plastic free refillable powder (that can be bought on a monthly subscription) with water, and ta-da! The kit contains a multi-purpose and Bathroom spray to help make your house sparkle.
Ocean Saver Ultimate Refill Collection£9.49
This one also uses the ‘just add water’ approach with Ultimate Refill Collection which has your whole house covered - from anti-bac to glass cleaning spray. The pack of 7 refillable solutions are plant-based, plastic free, non-toxic and made from biodegradable packaging. A real green hero!
Faith in Nature Hand Wash£45.20, was £56.50
A great way to ‘go green’ and reduce plastic waste is to buy in bulk - and Faith in Nature is making that easy with their huge 5L containers (don’t be put off by the price!) The scents are delicious (Wild Rose is my favourite) and the ingredients are organic, naturally sourced and cruelty free too. They also do a 5L body wash and shampoo, too.
Beauty Kitchen Organic Sanitiser Starter Pack£9.75
This sustainable hand sanitiser has won over beauty experts being both effective (62% ethanol) and for its moisturising properties (it contains aloe vera!) The Sanitiser Starter Pack comes equipped with a 500ml recycled glass bottle and a handy 50ml spray bottle. It’s soft on the skin and good for the planet - a win, win!
Some essentials…
Having reusable spray and squeeze bottles around the house will remind you to refill, not re-buy. I love the Ecovibe 500ml glass bottles that come with either a blue or black lid, so you don’t get them mixed up. If you’re worried about breakages around the kids check out Etsy’s extensive reusable bottle range. Many of them can even be personalised!
Top tip: Don’t forget to hold onto your current bottle once you have finished with it - some can easily be refilled!
