Save over £1000 this year with these top money-saving tips!
Blue Monday is particularly blue, due to the fact most of us are at the furthest point away from payday. But if that post-Christmas bank account is really starting to hurt, we’ve got just the man you need today.
Jordon Cox, known as The Coupon Kid is here to help you make it to payday, without spending a penny! From discounts, to subscription secrets, it’s the advice you can’t AFFORD to miss.
GET SAVVY WITH YOUR SUBSCRIPTIONS
BE STRATEGIC WITH STREAMING SUBSCRIPTIONS: If you have all the streaming accounts, but only find yourself using them for a certain series, sign up for a month (even for free on certain subscriptions such as Prime) to watch what you’re looking for, and then cancel before you’re charged for the next month.
HALF PRICE DISNEY+ SUBSCRIPTION: If you’re already a Disney+ subscriber, you can half the price of the subscription if you use your Tesco Clubcard points. You can exchange £12 worth of points for a 3 month subscription (normally costs £23.97).
CONSIDER DIFFERENT STREAMING PLANS: With the new ‘cheaper’ options with ads now, it’s worth asking yourself whether it’s worth going for the cheaper subscription. The new standard plan with adverts for Netflix costs £4.99 a month. That saves you £6 a month VS the standard and £12 a month VS premium! That’s £72, or £144 per year respectively you could save!
PLUS…SAVE ON A TAKEAWAY FOR YOUR NEXT AT HOME MOVIE NIGHT: Amazon Prime members can access Deliveroo Plus Silver for a year at no extra cost (worth £41.88). This gets you access to free delivery on orders over £25, exclusive discounts on food, and £8 off your 4th order with the same restaurant. It automatically cancels after a year, so you won’t be charged.
SHOPPING SAVINGS
GET PAID TO DO YOUR FOOD SHOP AT ASDA: If you shop at ASDA on three different days between now and the 31st of January - you’ll earn up to £6 into your cashpot via the Asda Rewards app. The trick is that there’s no minimum spend - so head in on three different days, buy a banana for 10p and scan your Asda Rewards app to actually make a profit. Once you’ve unlocked the £6 offer, you can claim it as in store credit.
BE CLEVER WITH CASHBACK AND PAY OFF YOUR BILLS: The Airtime Rewards cashback app is a simple way to get money off your phone bill with all the top UK mobile companies. Link your bank account and the app will automatically track your spending at hundreds of retailers. You’ll get between 1-5% cashback on everything you spend, and the money accrued will pay off your phone bill once enough has been earned.
SUPERMARKET HACK FOR A FREE HOT DRINK: If you have a My Waitrose card, you can get a free hot drink (tea or coffee) in store every day when you make a purchase. There’s no minimum spend, so you can go in, pick up something really cheap like a single Brussels Sprout for a few pence, and go to grab a free drink! You do need to bring a reusable cup to get your drink, but it’s far cheaper than spending up to £4 on a drink from a coffee shop.
BE A FRUGAL FOODIE
UTILISE ‘END OF THE DAY’ DISCOUNTS ON FOOD: Free App ‘Too Good To Go’ is a great way to save you money, whilst reducing food waste. The app lists local cafés, supermarkets and restaurants with leftover food at the end of the day, for you to buy at a discounted rate. You can buy a ‘surprise bag' of food through the app (usually costing between £2 and £5) and Too Good To Go says the food will be worth at least three times as much as if you'd purchased it at full price.
40% OFF TOBY CARVERY, HARVESTER OR STONEHOUSE PUBS: Download the restaurant app, and add the code ‘PEPSIMAX40’ onto the app. You can then get 40% off mains Monday-Friday until the end of February - this makes a midweek carvery £5.57 per-person.
EASY FREEBIES
FREE SAUSAGE ROLL AT TESCO: There’s a digital coupon at the moment that can get you a free Wall’s sausage roll at Tesco superstores nationwide. Enter your details, and you’ll be texted a barcode to use in store and get it for free. Ends on the 31st January, or when 10k have been claimed. 2k have gone so far.
FREE REFILLS THIS DRY JAN AT BREWDOG BARS: If you’re doing Dry January, or want to have a night out with friends for cheap, this is a great way to do it. Brewdog bars are giving away free unlimited refills on their draught alcohol free beers (Nanny State or Punk AF). Just ask for another one when you’re done at no extra cost.
GET A FREE DRINK FOR GETTING YOUR STEPS IN: If you have a fitness tracker, smartwatch or other device, and you’ve walked 10K steps in a single day, you can show this to a Hungry Horse server and get a free soft drink or alcohol free beer! T&Cs state ‘one free drink per day’, so you can technically walk 10,000 steps each day, and continue to get a free drink until the end of January. If you’re unable to walk, or exercise in another form, they’ll also accept those and make discretions.
MAXIMUM TOTAL SAVING FOR THE YEAR: £1,097.86!
(Based on £20 a month saving on Asda, £6 saving on Harvester, one free refill of beer and one free drink throughout the year)
