In under a week we have seen two shocking stories hit the headlines. Last week, a group of rogue builders were jailed after they conned vulnerable victims, including an elderly dementia patient, out of more than £1 million. Then, over the weekend, news emerged that an 89-year-old woman has been conned out of £100,000 by scammers posing as bank officials and police.
As much as we hate to believe it to be true, it seems that there are still groups of unscrupulous people preying on the vulnerable elderly members of society. So how can we protect the elderly people in our lives? How can they help themselves? And what kind of scams should they be looking out for? Consumer queen, Alice Beer, joins us now to tell us more.
