Paul McKenna simple anxiety techniques
Paul McKenna joins us in the studio to show us some simple techniques from his latest book ‘Freedom From Anxiety’ which will help relieve feelings of anxiety leading to a more joyful life.
Paul's latest book uses psychological techniques to help you train your mind and body, learn to control feelings of anxiety and experience deep calm, leading to a calmer, more joyful life. It is broken into three sections: relieving yourself from anxiety, building inner resilience and finally creating a richer world for yourself.
What's the 'freeze frame' technique?:
This is a technique used for relieving anxiety instantly in the moment known as 'freeze frame' - from a school of thought known as 'heart math'. "It is a one-minute technique which requires you to breathe deeply with your hand over your heart and allows a major reduction in feeling of anxiety. It is used by all four armed forces in the US.
What's the 'havening' technique?:
'Havening', as in a safe haven, is another way to reduce anxiety and distress associated with negative memories. "It involves a distinctive self-soothing motion with crossed arms, gently but noticeably stroking from shoulders to elbows. There are also versions which involve tapping your collar bone and stroking the palms of your hands and around your eyes."
What's 'Thought field therapy'?:
Thought field therapy (tft), also referred to as 'tapping' is another form of psycho sensory therapy to ease anxiety about a specific problem. "It takes a bit of practice to learn the specific sequence but research shows it works incredibly well at tackling anxiety. This technique can be done at home in your own time and takes some repetition and practice but works wonders."
