Party-proof your skin with Liz Earle

December is here and it’s time to let your hair down and party like it’s 1999! But if the winter elements have been less than kind to your skin, leaving you with a dull, dry and lacklustre complexion, fret not!

Liz Earle shares her top tips on how to party proof your skin and get the glow ahead of the Christmas parties.

Dry skin brightener face mask

This face mask is made from banana, honey and caster sugar. The sugar acts as a gentle skin scrub and many of the ingredients in skincare are sugar-derived to help with rehydration. The Manuka honey boosts the skin with natural beautifiers.

Ingredients and method: 1/4 very ripe banana, 2 heaped tsp caster sugar and 1/4 tsp runny Manuka honey. Mix together to form a very smooth paste. Use quickly before the sugar grains melt! (Can use granulated for a heavier-duty scrub, castor sugar better for more mature and sensitive skins). Rub into clean skin on the face using up any mixture on the backs of the hands too. Excellent to rehydrate and smooth.

Waste not: Use any extra as a topping for vanilla ice cream or stir into plain yoghurt!

Skin soother face maskThis face mask is made with avocado and live yoghurt. The vitamin E and lactic acid from the yoghurt is a natural skin brightener and skin softener (also found in sour cream and buttermilk).

Ingredients and method: Use 1 dessertspoonful of ripe avocado, mashed, and mix with 1/2 dessertspoonful plain live yoghurt. Brush over clean dry skin using a make up brush or pastry brush. Leave on the skin for 10-15 mins before rinsing away, removing any remaining residue with a musln cloth or flannel. Pat dry and apply your usual moisturiser.

Waste not: Use any extra as a dip for raw vegetable crudites, such as carrot, celery and red pepper sticks!
