'My mum was killed by a firework prank - I’m campaigning for tougher laws around buying them'
In the next couple of weeks local shops will be filled with fireworks ahead of Bonfire Night on 5th November. Every year there are reports of burns, injuries and misuse of fireworks - something which Alan Smith is all too familiar with, having lost his 88-year-old mother Josephine to a firework prank in 2021.
Alan is now campaigning to raise the legal age to buy fireworks to 21 and increase the minimum spend to £50 to prevent youths from getting their hands on them.
