‘My daughter died from an allergic reaction after one sip of a hot chocolate'
Last February, Abi Duyile was taking her 13-year-old daughter Hannah to the dentist, when they stopped at Costa for a hot chocolate treat. But what followed next was a series of events which Abi describes as a ‘living nightmare’. After just one sip, of what they thought was a dairy free drink, Hannah suffered a severe allergic reaction. Seeking help at a nearby pharmacy, Abi was shocked to discover that the only available EpiPen was just a third of Hannah’s prescribed dosage and despite medical intervention, Hannah tragically lost her life.
An inquest concluded that Hannah’s death was due to Costa staff’s ‘failure to follow allergy processes’, and yet Abi says that she’s never received an apology from Costa. Abi joins us, alongside her lawyer Miranda, to share her story in the hopes of preventing other parents from experiencing the same devastating and preventable loss.
