Michela’s back in the kitchen talking all things apples! Perfect for the season, she’s treating us to a delicious crumble - with a twist. Her crumble is made with amaretto and almonds to give this British classic an Italian flair.
Michela Chiappa’s Ultimate Apple Crumble
Serves: 6
Ingredients
For the crumble topping:100g whole natural almonds, roughly chopped 100g light brown sugar100g porridge oats 60g amaretti biscuits, crushed 100g cold or frozen butter
For the apple mix: 4-6 Bramley apples, peeled, cored and chopped into chunks 30g brown sugar30ml amaretto liqueur (optional)
To serve:Custard or ice cream
Method
1. Preheat the oven to 180C/Gas Mark 4.
2. Mix all the dry ingredients for the crumble topping in a bowl, then grate in the butter. Mix with a stand mixer or by hand until combined.
3. Place the chopped apples into a baking dish, approximately 20cm x 20cm. Sprinkle over the brown sugar and toss the apples through with your hands. Drizzle the amaretto liqueur over the top.
4. Top the apples with the crumble. Bake in the oven for 20-30 minutes until golden on top. Serve with custard or ice cream.
