'I eat bricks'
I feel that now I've come out about it, I've calmed down - the urge isn't now as strong
It's hard to imagine anybody who doesn't crave at least something - whether it's chocolate, ice-cream or cheese. However Patrice Benjamin-Ramgoolam's craving is something out of the ordinary, as for the last eleven years she's consumed bricks every single day.
This rather odd compulsion stems from the fact Patrice lives with PICA syndrome, eating objects which are not suitable to be eaten. Alongside PICA, Patrice is also on medication for depression and anxiety.
Despite being acutely aware of the dangerous health implications, Patrice still nibbles away on the walls in her home on a daily basis. She is now seeking professional help to try and kick her habit. She joins us today alongside clinical psychologist Dr Abigael San.
