How to become a couponing expert and save hundreds

Coupons are everywhere, and although not as widely available as they once were, if you know where to look, you can still save money. You can find coupons on your phone, in magazines, and even have some sent to you directly from brands.

The Coupon King is here with his guide to finding and using these coupons to get the most out of your shopping saving you up to £700 a year.

1) Supermarket Couponing Apps (Save £300+ A Year)

Coupons that you print out are now in the past. They have gone digital in the form of supermarket cashback apps. You’ll find lots of supermarket products with cashback amounts on (for example £1 off bread or 50p off butter).

If you see an offer you want, buy it and take a picture of the receipt when you’re home. Your Cashback will then be added to your account, which you can withdraw once you reach a threshold.

JORDON’S TOP THREE SUPERMARKET COUPONING APPS WORTH HAVING:

1) Shopmium. £10 minimum withdrawal. Deals include: 50p off Maryland Cookies, £1 off Cheerios, £1.60 off Robinsons Squash.

2) CheckoutSmart. £5 minimum withdrawal. Deals include: Free Peperami Chicken Bites, £1.25 cashback on Yorkie Milk Chocolate Dessert, £1 off Shloer Zero Sparkling Red Grape.

3) GreenJinn. £1.50 minimum withdrawal. Deals include: £1.50 off La Vie Plant Based Bacon, 83p off Kabuto Noodles, 75p off Hippeas Crisps.

2) Ask Brands For Coupons

Contact brands and ask if they have any coupons or free samples to send you. Add a bit of context like “I’ve been using your brand for a long time” or “I’ve just seen a new product you’ve released, do you have any samples?”.

3) Complain When Things Go Wrong

Always complain if something goes wrong. Contact a brand with the batch code and information. The brands would like to know, and you’ll earn some freebies or coupons for new ones.

4) Praise Brands

Brands love consumer feedback, especially if you take time out of your day to do it. The more effort you put in - the better. Sending a picture your kids have drawn or even a birthday card can really pay off.

5) Tesco Magazine Coupons (Save £50+ A Year)

The Tesco magazine front page has coupons to use in store and they rotate every month with each issue. You can find the magazines in Tesco Superstores near the tills, and they are free to pick up. If there are coupons in there for something you buy each week, you could pick up a copy before you shop and save on your shop the same day.

Coupons you can find this month include: £1 off Puzzler Pocket Titles, £1.15 off Felix Dry Doubly Delicious Cat Food, £4 off TENA Silhouette Underwear, 50p off Alpro Oat Original Long Life Dairy-Free Drink, £1 off Special K, £1 off Zespri SunGold Kiwi 4-pack, 95p off Any Planted Product.

6) Stacking Coupons To Sales (Save £50+ A Year)

You’ll get the most out of coupons and cashback if you can stack it with other deals. If you’ve got a deal that you can stack with an in-store supermarket offer, you can get things for free or really cheap.

A £1 off coupon used on a product worth £2.50 gets the price down to £1.50. But wait until it’s half price at £1.25, and then use the £1 coupon - and it’s 25p.

One way to check supermarket prices very quickly is the supermarket price comparison website Trolley. It’ll tell you the price of any item you search in all major supermarkets. So if you have a good coupon or cashback deal to claim - you can find deals to stack it with.

7) Supermarket Loyalty Coupons (Save £250+ A Year)

It's worth having loyalty cards for each supermarket you go to. Not only does it make supermarket pricing cheaper, there are also coupon savings to be made.

Asda. Scan your Asda rewards app at the checkout, and you get cashback on items in store. There’s also challenges, where you can earn £7 if you shop there 4 times over the month. Money can be converted into a voucher for money off in store.

Sainsbury’s. If you have the Nectar/SmartShop app downloaded, you can get extra points on items in store, as well as personalised Nectar prices.

Tesco. Sometimes coupons are on offer and can be found within your Clubcard app (or sent in the post). It’s worth checking to see if you have any unused Clubcard points too, as they do expire.

Lidl. The Lidl Plus app has coupons for items in store that rotate every Thursday.

8) Online Shopping New Customer Codes (Save £50+ A Year)

There are lots of new customer codes available for online shopping.

If there are multiple supermarkets you’ve never shopped in before, you can take advantage of multiple codes. So if you’re a Tesco shopper, but there’s £15 off at Sainsbury’s and £10 off at Morrisons, for the next couple of weeks, do a shop at each to get money off… then switch back to your usual store.

Codes available now include: £5 off Iceland, £10 off Morrisons, £15 off Sainsbury’s, £20 off Ocado.

TOTAL SAVINGS: £700
