Everything you need to know about I'm a Celebrity...South Africa!
I'm A Celebrity...South Africa is a brand new show, coming to ITV1 and ITVX from 24th April at 9pm, which sees the return of some of the most memorable campmates from I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! in the brand new setting of South Africa.
They survived the Australian jungle, but South Africa is an even harder proposition which will push them to their limits and test them like never before. The challenges are bigger and tougher and the environment harsher and more unforgiving.
With no public vote, they will be competing against each other in a battle to become the first ever 'I'm A Celebrity Legend'.
Who is in the new series of I'm a Celeb?
The starting lineup for the brand new all-stars series of I'm a Celebrity...South Africa is as follows:
Amir Khan - Boxing Champion
35-year-old sportsman Amir Khan first entered the jungle in 2017 and was involved in one of the most iconic I'm A Celeb moments where he was caught eating the camp's Dingo Dollar treat with comedian Iain Lee.
The former professional boxer has vowed to be a lot tougher in the South African camp and not secretly eat any treats behind his campmates’ back as he admits he still gets stopped over his infamous ‘Strawberry Gate’ antics five years on.
Speaking about going into the new series, he said: “The first thing I will say to Ant and Dec when I arrive? I will give them a big hug and then promise them: ‘I am back and I am going to be different this time. I am not going to be a soft me. I am going to be a tough me.”
Jordan Banjo - Diversity Dancer & DJ
Diversity star Jordan Banjo admits he is terrified of snakes now more than ever since taking part in I’m A Celebrity seven years ago, but says the chance to join some of the legendary celebrity contestants was too good an opportunity to turn down.
Jordan admits his life has changed beyond belief since competing seven years ago after tying the knot and going on to have two children saying 'he will miss them like crazy'.
Sharing why he signed up to the new series, he said: “A series with different campmates from over the years sounds pretty cool and my fellow Diversity dancers are excited to see me suffer again! You know Ant, Dec and the team will push the boat out, make it bigger, better and get you to do some even more crazy things!”
Helen Flanagan - Former Coronation Street Star
She famously freaked out doing seven Bushtucker Trials on the trot over a decade ago but now former Coronation Street actress Helen Flanagan is determined to face up to her fears. Helen, 32, who played Rosie Webster in the ITV1 soap, was voted by the public to take part in most of the 2012 trials after she confessed on the first day of the hit series she was a ‘scaredy cat’.
Speaking about how she's feeling this time round, she said: “It’s going to be different. I was only 22 back then and I am 32 now. I have grown up a lot and I’ve had three children and I’ve gone through three labours! I won’t not finish the trials because my mindset will be verydifferent this time around.”
She added: “I want to go back on I’m A Celebrity to be a better version of myself,".
Carol Vorderman - TV Presenter
Pride of Britain presenter Carol Vorderman has revealed going on I’m A Celebrity was such a life changing experience that it inspired her to buy a house in Wales. She also admitted the first thing she will do when she sees Ant & Dec again is say a huge ‘thank you’.
“Doing I’m A Celebrity changed me a lot,” says Carol. “It made me realise that I was missing many things I loved and within a short space of time after leaving the camp."
Determined to savour every second of her time in the new series, Carol says she isn’t going to have a game plan before she arrives. “Last time I did I’m A Celebrity, I tried to double bluff everyone,” she admits. “I told them I was frightened of things I wasn’t really, like heights! It did sort of semi work."
Fatima Whitbread - Olympic Athlete
Retired British and Olympic javelin thrower Fatima Whitbread first entered camp during the 11th series in 2011. created arguably one of the most memorable moments of the entire show after a cockroach crawled up her nostril and got lodged inside during a Bushtucker Trial. Fatima kept the cockroach and has even got it waxed.
Fatima goes on to reveal she would absolutely love to take part in the one Trial that many celebrities fear – an eating one. “I’ve never had the opportunity of an eating and drinking Trial,” she admits. “If that Trial came up and I was put forward, I would do it. I am not sure I would like the gagging though!”
Paul Burrell - Former Royal Butler
Princess Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell was part of the 4th series nearly 20 years ago in 2004 and describes how he went into the jungle as Princess Diana’s former butler and came out as Paul Burrell. From that point onwards he says, "I realised I had to be me".
“I loved doing it the first time around and to be asked again is very special,” says Paul. “It’s like coming into the final of the jungle Olympics. I had to eat kangaroo testicles in Australia and I am expecting everything to be bigger in South Africa.
But it is going to be different because I am a different person now. I was a married guy with two kids and now 19 years on, I am a married man again but this time around, I have a husband. I have many more things to talk about in South Africa. I want to be there for all the dads who are struggling with their sexuality.”
Phil Tufnell - Ex-England Cricketer
He was crowned ‘King of the Jungle’ almost twenty years ago but former International English cricketer Phil Tufnell says it feels like only yesterday as he reveals he became more famous for his jungle experience than ‘bowling Viv Richards out’ in an international game.
“Doing I’m A Celebrity is such a great experience that stays with you for the rest of your life,” he explains. “It feels as clear as a crystal ball and it is one of my favourite programmes.”
He added: “There is never a dull moment when you watch I’m A Celebrity and I am looking forward to being part of the show all over again.”
Janice Dickinson - Supermodel
Former supermodel Janice Dickinson can’t wait to get back in the jungle and find out what other celebrities will be joining her in South Africa.
Janice said “I’m coming back for more fun, more camaraderie and to see if I can get along with everyone.
Reflecting on the trials, Janice commented “I wasn’t fearless doing the Trials in Australia but I always gave it a good shot except when they wanted me to drink something. I said no way, yuck, I can’t eat or drink something I can’t stomach, yuck.”
Shaun Ryder - Music Legend
Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder loved taking part in the I’m A Celebrity Australian jungle so much, he wanted to live in the camp for a year. Shaun admits he didn’t want to leave the show when he took part in 2010 and came runner-up behind fellow contestant, Stacey Solomon.
Asked how he would feel if he won, Shaun admits he would love to win. He said: “It would be nice to win this I’m A Celebrity series," he says. “It is always nice to win something but I feel very honoured to be part of the show. It is a privilege to be back and I’m glad I am doing it again.”
There will be many more celebrities taking part in the series but viewers will have to watch to find out who they are and when they will enter camp.
Whilst nodding back to the Australian jungle, I'm A Celebrity...South Africa is a uniquely different series so viewers can look forward to lots of unexpected twists and turns.
