Deaf 12-year-old’s desperate plea for clear face masks
Diagnosed as severe to profoundly deaf when he was three years old, Austin Goddard has had to overcome challenges his whole life. But following the coronavirus pandemic and the compulsory introduction of face masks, 12-year-old Austin, who relies on lip-reading, has been left feeling ‘lonely and sad’.
In a bid to help the one in five others who rely on lip reading to communicate, Austin wrote directly to Boris Johnson and joins us today to explain the importance of see-through masks or visors among the deaf community.
