David Tennant discusses his new ITVX drama Litvinenko

David Tennant joins us on the launch day of ITV's new streaming service, ITVX, to talk about his drama Litvinenko, which hits the streaming service from and that launches on ITVX from 15th December.

Talking about the role, David said, “It took a while for anyone to start believing him because it was like something from a spy novel with this man discovered in a hospital bed talking about how he’d been poisoned by the Russian state, of course nobody believed him initially.

“It really took some extraordinary police officers and detective work to listen [and do the work]... and it really changed the way we viewed Putin. I really remember it in 2006, it sounded so implausible.”

Filming the iconic hospital scenes, David admitted there was a real seriousness and dignity taken in capturing those.

He said, “Those senses were filmed over an intense week and so many of us had spent time with his wife Marina and we were all committed to telling this story and it’s relatively recent history - it’s a tragedy, politically - the verberations of this are still being felt today, but principally it’s about telling the story of someone who lost her husband and a son who lost a father. And everyone approached that with respect and dignity.”
