Chaos, destruction, terror: Life as a new mum in a warzone

Have you packed the changing mat? Forgotten the nappies? Looking for the wet wipes? These are the new-parent worries everyone remembers. But all of those things pale in comparison with the world into which four-year-old Sama was delivered. In the middle of the Syrian civil war, she was born in one of the last standing hospitals in Aleppo.

"When I was a mum, everything was more extreme - extreme feeling with everything. Happiness was more like being happy more, fear was much, much more."

Waad al-Kateab

It was there that her journalist mum Waad al-Kateab began filming their life. The result is one of the most powerful documentaries of our time, which Waad calls ‘a love letter to my daughter’. It’s a story of one mum trying her hardest to keep her child alive.

Today, after starting a new life here in Britain - Waad joins us to recount her incredible story.
