A story of care home abuse
When Chris Haywood and his family had to make the heartbreaking decision to place his father, Ken, into a care home, they did as much research as they could, finally choosing a Hillcroft facility in Lancashire which they believed would provide dementia sufferer Ken the kind of specialist care he required.
Four months after Ken's death, however, some shocking news compounded the family's grief, as the police began investigating allegations of abuse at the care home, and it appeared Ken had been a victim. Last week four members of staff at at the nursing home were found guilty of 'wilful neglect of a person with lack of capacity' under the Mental Capacity Act 2005. Chris joins us now, together with Kathryn Smith, Director of Operations at the Alzheimer's Society, to tell his father's story.
