Actress Cheryl Fergison 'I was forced to turn to food banks'
She was one of Eastenders’ most loveable cast members, but away from Albert Square, Cheryl Fergison’s life off-screen has been worthy of its own soap storyline. After playing the karaoke-loving Heather Trott from 2007 to 2012, Cheryl was sadly diagnosed with womb cancer in 2015 which left her unable to work. Without an income, she spent nearly a decade spiralling into debt, and in February this year Cheryl was forced to turn to her local food bank after reaching ‘rock bottom’.
She shares her story in the hopes of breaking the stigma for the other 3million food bank users in the UK, and to reiterate that there is no shame in reaching out for help when you're in need, whatever your background or circumstances.
