15-year-old Matthew is building a vacuum empire!
Matthew Lock's passion for vacuum cleaners began when he was just three years old and started hoovering with his grandmother.
Since then the 15-year-old has built a vacuum cleaning empire - with a review site and a collection of 150 vacuums, including some incredibly rare models which he keeps in his parents’ garden shed.
He’s the biggest vacuum reviewer on the internet, and today Matthew joins us in the studio with his dad Richard and his collection.
So what makes the perfect vacuum?
Matthew says shoppers should consider the following five things when looking for a new vacuum"
- Reliability: You need something reliable because you don’t want to be throwing away a vacuum every two or three years. That’s expensive and bad for the environment.
- Power: You want something that’s powerful but has an efficient design. Henry hoovers, for example, use a lot of suction but don’t have a brush roller. This means they’re harder to use on carpets than something like a Sebo - which uses less suction but has rollers to push the dirt in the direction of the vacuum head.
- Weight: You don’t want something too heavy. Cordless vacuums are popular but some put damage on the wrist when you’re lugging it around your house.
- Filtration: Always look for a vacuum with Hepa filtration - especially if you have allergies. This means that anything sucked up stays in the machine. If you have allergies and don’t use this, you’re in trouble.
- Noise!
