It's Knockout time for our Acts!
For three weeks our incredible Acts have battled it out, going head-to-head to sing for their place in the Knockouts. Our superstar Coaches have felt the pressure as they made some tough decisions to take their Teams from 10 to 5, with one extra space claimed by each Coach via a sneaky Steal.
There have been emotional covers, booty-shaking performances, stunning high notes, teary goodbyes and of course, we were living for those dramatic Steals! After a whirlwind three rounds, your Knockouts line-up is officially assembled, and what a line-up it is! Let’s take a look at the Acts heading for the next round of The Voice UK.
Team Tom
Heavy sounds of soul, folk and a mighty trio make up Sir Tom’s super six. Jonny Brooks sung his heart out as he performed James Bay’s ‘Us’, and those anthemic vocals made sure his spot in Team Tom was safe. Joining him is 22-year-old Lois Moodie, who seriously impressed the crowd with her version of John Legend’s ‘Ordinary People’, with the added pressure of performing it in front of will.i.am - who co-wrote the track!
Music teacher Elly O’Keeffe wowed with her take on OneRepublic’s ‘I Lived’, while Zion’s heartfelt performance of Whitney Houston’s huge track ‘My Love Is Your Love’ left us feeling all emotional as the 26-year-old took his place in The Knockouts.
With just one precious Steal to use, Tom took his time and could not be swayed, leaving the other Coaches guessing as to which Act he had his eye on. He was simply waiting for a dose of diva, hitting his button for soulful trio So Diva after their fab performance of En Vogue’s ‘My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It) did the trick for our Welsh icon.
The final Act heading for the next round in Team Tom is vocal powerhouse ShezAr, whose note-perfect version of ‘Young Hearts Run Free’ by Candi Staton had the audience on their feet in the studio and the rest of us bopping around the living room with a Knockout-worthy performance!
Team Will
With everything from opera to gospel to latin flavour in his Team, will.i.am’s taking one mighty set of super soloists to the Knockouts!
Electrician Doug Sure brought his unequivocal cool to Mary J Blige and U2’s major track ‘One’ and kept his place in the competition. Will played his ace when opera empress Claudillea Holloway took to the stage to sing Sia's 'The Greatest', using his Steal to nab the singing teacher from Team Meghan. Next, 18-year-old Johannes Pietsch had us all mesmerised as he showed off his unbelievable high notes once more, heading to the Knockouts after his version of Eva Cassidy’s ‘Songbird’.
22-year-old Lucy Calcines dialled the superstar setting up a notch, blowing us all away with her sassy performance as she sang Little Mix’s ‘Bounce Back’ to keep her place in will.i.am’s squad. Queen of soul Baby Sol stunned us all as she brought her unique vocals to the En Vogue track ‘My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It), taking her ticket to the next round. The final place in Will’s Knockout Team went to Gevanni Hutton. The 17-year-old never fails to make us emotional with his heartfelt performances, and his take on John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ was no different. See you all at the Knockouts!
Team Meghan
Team Meghan’s all-female super squad is bursting with 100% girl power! Will the ladies pack the punches in the next round?
First to take her place in the Knockouts for Team Trainor was 21-year-old Blaize China, whose soca vibes made her performance of Sia’s ‘The Greatest’ one to remember. She was soon joined by vocal vixen Oli Ross, whose unbelievable range was in full force as she performed Hozier’s ‘Take Me To Church’.
It was a dramatic end to the first round of Battles when Meghan made sure Beryl McCormack and her incredible vocals weren’t going anywhere, stealing the 22-year-old make-up artist from Olly after she sang ‘Flying Without Wings’ by Westlife.
Northern Irish student Brooke Scullion brought her A-game as she took on the mighty Adele’s ‘Water Under The Bridge’, showing us exactly what she’s made of.
We had to grab the tissues when Trinity-Leigh Cooper brought every emotion to her version of ‘Keep Holding On’ by Avril Lavigne, and the 17-year-old student’s beautiful tone ensured her place in Meghan’s Team was safe. There was no messing around from 19-year-old Darci Wilders as she donned her power suit and took us back to the 90s with her stunning performance of Backstreet Boys’ ‘I Want It That Way’, making sure that there was a place in the Knockouts with her name on it.
Team Olly
With a serving of rock, a side of retro glam, a big dose of soul and some haunting vocals, Team Olly’s Knockout Acts are definitely not to be underestimated!
Rocker Alan Chan showed off his versatile style in the very first Battle round with his powerful performance of Cher’s ‘If I Could Turn Back Time’, and the 40-year-old made sure he wasn’t going anywhere.
Blessing Chitapa was the next to bring her Knockout-worthy talent, delivering an absolutely stunning version of Westlife’s ‘Flying Without Wings’ that had us immediately hitting replay.
Laid-back cheeky chappy Jordan Phillips was the man for Olly’s Steal, and the 20-year-old joiner couldn’t believe it when he was stolen from Team Meghan after his version of Adele’s ‘Water Under The Bridge’. Young student Ty Lewis showed that he meant business in the Battles, shining on that stage as he sang ‘If The World Was Ending’ by JP Saxe & Julia Michaels.
18-year-old Cameo Williams’ impressive range combined with her unique tone ensured she wowed Mr Murs, keeping her place in Team Olly with a performance of The Bangles’ ‘Eternal Flame’. Last to make sure she wasn’t leaving the competition was Cat Cavelli, who brought the glamour and the stage presence with her stunning twist on ‘Dance Monkey’ by Tones & I, taking her place in the Knockouts with her young daughter cheering her on from the audience.
