The Voice is back!
The Voice UK 2020 returns tonight for the long-awaited Semi-Final, and we cannot wait!
The Coaches are ready to go, but what about our Semi-Finalists? Let’s take a look back at the Blind Auditions from the nine Acts hoping to secure a place in the Final.
We’re counting our blessings to be back, so let’s start with Team Olly’s Blessing Chitapa. From her stunning version of Etta James’s 'I’d Rather Go Blind', to her moving version of Arlissa’s ‘We Won’t Move’ in the Knockouts, Blessing won over Olly and the entire studio to take her place in the Semi-Final!
The phrase “start as you mean to go on” has never been more appropriate than when Brooke Scullion opened the series and earned herself a four chair turn with her magical performance of Lewis Capaldi’s ‘Bruises’. At the Knockouts, Brooke convinced everyone she should stay in the competition by singing a stunning rendition of Rihanna’s ‘Stay’. Her wordplay did the trick, and Coach Meghan made her day with a place in the Semi-Final.
Next up it’s your Lifeline vote Doug Sure. The South London electrician won a place in everyone’s hearts from the beginning with his unforgettable version of Childish Gambino’s ‘Feels Like Summer’. After a tough Knockout choice for will.i.am, Doug was saved by the viewers at home and bagged himself a place in the Semi-Final!
17-year-old Gevanni Hutton’s emotional performance of Quindon Tarver’s ‘Everybody’s Free (To Feel Good)’ had us all in tears and earned him a place on Team Will, where he went onto one of our youngest ever Battles and won. With the help of Guest Mentor Jesy Nelson at the Knockouts, Gevanni soared through to the Semi-Final with his powerful rendition of ‘People Help The People’.
Joining Gevanni in the Semi-Final is Jonny Brooks, the Northern Irish heartthrob who introduced himself with a version of Van Morrison’s ‘Sweet Thing’ that left Meghan swooning and saw Sir Tom pitching against Olly. There was more swooning to come at his Knockouts rehearsal, where Guest Mentor Shania Twain was left speechless by his performance!
Staying with Team Tom, Lois Moodie’s incredible version of Beyonce’s ‘I Am Here’ left Olly, Will and Tom floored at the Blind Auditions. Having already performed a Beyonce song at the Blinds, Lois upped the pressure again - this time with a song co-written by Will in the Battles! Her powerful vocals on John Legend’s ‘Ordinary People’ saw her sail through to the Knockouts, and Jordin Sparks’ Battlefield won her a place in the Semi-Final.
Cheeky chap Jordan Phillips turned out to be exactly what Meghan was looking for at the Blind Auditions, with his strong rendition of Tom Grennan’s ‘Found What I’ve Been Looking For’. After losing his spot on Team Meghan to fellow Semi-Finalist Brooke in the Battles, it was Olly Murs to the rescue with a steal. Jordan had the crowd in the palm of his hand with Tom Walker’s ‘Rapture’ at the Knockouts, and new Coach Olly sent him through to the Semi-Final!
Lucy Calcines got the party started at her Blind Audition, with all four Coaches turning their chairs for her high-energy J Balvin, Willy William and Beyonce’s ‘Mi Gente’. The energy levels didn’t drop in the Battles or the Knockouts, with sassy versions of Little Mix’s ‘Bounce Back’ and Charlie Puth’s ‘Attention’ securing Lucy a place in the Semi-Final.
Last but by no means least, is Trinity-Leigh Cooper. At her Blind Audition, Trinity warmed everyone’s hearts with a raw, emotional version of Demi Levato’s ‘Stone Cold’. Meghan and Olly didn’t just turn their chairs, they ran on to the stage for a celebratory hug! With the Battles behind her and a knockout performance of Lauren Daigle’s ‘You Say’ at the Knockouts, Trinity took her a step further into the Semi-Final.
The Final is in sight, but which four Acts will make it? Tune into the Semi-Final tonight at 8:45pm on ITV, ITV Hub and STV!
