Shepherd's Pie for Little Shepherds

Little Ant and Dec are transformed into Little Shepherds as they help Farmer Andrew herd the sheep on the Morrisons Farm at Dumfries House.

After a hard day's work the boys join Chef Richard as they cook up a Shepherd's Pie in the Farmyard Kitchen.

Serves 4

Ingredients

2 large onions, finely chopped 2 tbsp olive oil900g/2lb lamb mince450ml lamb stocksalt and freshly ground pepper 2 carrots100g peas

For the mash

700g potatoes55ml milk75g butter

Method* Job for a grown up

  • Preheat the oven to 200C / 180C fan / Gas 6

  • You'll need to keep a close eye over little shepherds for this next one! Heat a little olive oil in a pan and throw in the mince, onions and carrots. *

  • Cook for 5 minutes or so until the mince is browned and pour in the stock *

  • Let the mince simmer for 15-20 minutes. When the stock has reduced and the mixture has thickened take the pan off the heat. *

  • While the filling for the pie is cooling, it's time to make your mash! Peel the potatoes and boil util soft, then drain and mash (little shepherds can help with this!)

  • Add butter and milk to make the mash light and creamy

  • Spoon the filling into a serving dish and spread the mash on top. Braver cooks can use a piping bag!

  • Bake for 20 minutes until the mash on top is a nice golden colour
