Huw Jones hails Greig Laidlaw leadership after match-winning display

Huw Jones has praised the impact of his Scotland team-mate Greig Laidlaw after a match-winning performance against France.

Huw Jones has praised the impact of his Scotland team-mate Greig Laidlaw after a match-winning performance against France.

Laidlaw kicked 22 points as Scotland came from behind to pick up an important 32-26 win over Les Bleus to get their NatWest 6 Nations campaign on track after last week's disaster in Cardiff.

The scrum-half was promoted to the starting XV in place of Ali Price and his presence as a former captain of his country was a major factor in the turnaround for Jones, who scored his eighth international try.

"Greig was instrumental today," he said. "He brought a lot of calmness and obviously his kicking with the boot was spot on every time.

"His leadership really helped, it obviously helps having as many leaders as you can out there.

"Barcs (John Barclay) is a great captain and Greigy has all that experience. He's a great talker and has obviously been captain before, so it's great having them both on the field."

The win sets Scotland up nicely for the visit of England to BT Murrayfield on Saturday week, with Eddie Jones' side currently hot favourites for a third title on the bounce, and Huw Jones is relishing the encounter.

He said: "It doesn't get any bigger for a Scotland player to face England up here. We're all really excited about it.

"We've got two weeks to prepare so we'll be working hard. I can't wait."
