Royale Pagaille wins second consecutive Peter Marsh Handicap Chase
Royale Pagaille won the Peter Marsh Handicap Chase for the second year in a row at Haydock Park.
After General Wolfe in 1998 and 1999, Venetia Williams' eight-year-old became only the second dual winner of the Grade Two feature on Merseyside.
Last year, the Rich Ricci-owned Royale Pagaille won with such authority, but this year, ridden by Charlie Deutsch, he narrowly won by a half-length against Sam Brown (8-1) - one of nine challengers to whom he had to yield upwards of 10lb.
Despite being 7lb higher in the handicap and carrying top weight of 11st10lb, he proved to be a class act as well as a brave competitor this time.
It was Royale Pagaille's third victory in four starts at Haydock, and it came after a second-place finish at the track in the Betfair Chase back in November
