Reel gives O'Brien an eighth Coronation Cup

Highland Reel landed his fifth win at the highest level with a gutsy success in the Group 1 Investec Coronation Cup.

One of two full-brothers in the race for Ballydoyle maestro Aidan O'Brien, with Idaho being the other, the five-year-old as is his wont went to the lead under Ryan Moore.

Sent off 9/4 favourite, Highland Reel was joined by the Charlie Appleby-trained Hawkbill just under three furlongs out.

However, he fended off the challenge from last year's Eclipse winner and inside the final furlong had a three-length lead.

The Godolphin third-string, Frontiersman, made good progress from the rear despite hanging down the camber but could not bridge the deficit on the Ballydoyle charge.

O'Brien said: "He hadn't run since Dubai but I'm delighted for everybody.

"Things weren't running smoothly but thanks to everybody. It's a big team effort and I couldn't be thankful enough to them.

"He's an amazing horse, tough, has tactical speed and he stays."
