Old Guard and Bryony Frost win the Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle at Newbury
An impressive ride from Bryony Frost saw Old Guard take the Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle in convincing style at Newbury.
Bryony Frost kept up her great run of Saturday success as Old Guard came good in the Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle at Newbury.
The 5lb claimer, who won the Badger Ales Trophy at Wincanton last month before another headline triumph at Cheltenham a week later, hit the target again after the Paul Nicholls-trained six-year-old ran out a comfortable two-and-a-quarter-length winner.
Frost said: "We had confidence in him and I'm lost for words. He's a great friend to all of us in the yard and owes us nothing and to get a winner in these silks is great.
"It's a massive day and I'd never ridden (over jumps) at Newbury before, just once on the Flat."Thank god he got his head in front, he deserved it."
Nicholls said: "He ran really well at Cheltenham in the Greatwood the other day. He just wanted two and a half miles. She gave him a positive ride and we knew he would stay.
"I will put him in the Christmas Hurdle and have a look. If there is a small field at Kempton, he loves it there and he might have an entry. The Lanzarote is another option as well."
The 7-2 winner is part-owned by television presenter Jeremy Kyle, who said of Frost: "What a jockey, she's fantastic."
