Buick hits the target with progressive G K Chesterton
The Godolphin silks passed the line in front in the Investec Click & Invest Mile Handicap, as William Buick rode a masterclass on the well-fancied G K Chesterton.
The 28-year-old had a riding ban overturned by the BHA earlier in the week which allowed him to ride today.
Buick took the four-year-old chestnut gelding to the front after jumping only moderately from stall six and was allowed an easy lead.
Slowing it down into Tattenham Corner and getting a breather, G K Chesterton gradually wound it up into the final three furlongs.
He kept galloping strongly inside the final two furlongs and despite a host of challengers bearing down on him found, he found enough to beat runner-up Mythical Madness by a length.
His trainer Charlie Appleby, who fields Sobetsu in the Oaks, said: "It's great to have a winner and for the team.
"Everybody has done a great job with this horse, I think William gave him a fantastic ride he stacked them up in behind and kicked at the right time and put the race to bed.
"Full credit to the horse as well he found when he needed."
