ITV and BBC announce FIFA World Cup Round of 16 TV schedule

Following the conclusion of the group stage of the 2022 World Cup, ITV and the BBC have announced their TV picks for the Round of 16.

ITV will show live coverage of the England v Senegal game on Sunday, as well as peak time games between Brazil and South Korea on Monday, plus Portugal and Switzerland on Tuesday evening.  ITV will also show Morocco v Spain on Tuesday afternoon.

The BBC will show the first Round of 16 match on Saturday afternoon between Netherlands and USA, followed by the evening game in which Argentina take on Australia.  The BBC’s other two matches are France v Poland on Sunday afternoon at 3pm and Japan v Croatia on Monday afternoon.

ITV’s coverage so far has seen a peak of 18 million viewers watch England’s draw with the USA, nine matches on ITV1 have peaked with over 5 million viewers, with two matches (England v USA and USA v Wales) seeing a peak above 10 million. To date, ITV’s World Cup coverage has had 75 million streams. 

In a tournament of upsets, the biggest shocks so far have featured on matches covered by ITV, starting with Argentina’s 2-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia in their opening game, as well as Germany’s 2-1 loss to Japan and the latter’s 2-1 victory over Spain, which ultimately knocked out the Germany side, plus Cameroon’s 1-0 win over tournament favourites Brazil.

Netherlands v USA - kick-off at 3pm on Saturday 3 December on BBC1

Argentina v Australia - kick-off at 7pm on Saturday 3 December on BBC1

France v Poland - kick-off at 3pm on Sunday 4 December on BBC1

England v Senegal - kick-off at 7pm on Sunday 4 December on ITV1 and ITVX

Japan v Croatia - kick-off at 3pm on Monday 5 December on BBC1 

Brazil  v South Korea - kick-off at 7pm on Monday 5 December on ITV1 and ITVX

Morocco v Spain - kick-off at 3pm on Tuesday 6 December on ITV1 and ITVX

Portugal v Switzerland at 7pm on Tuesday 6 December on ITV1 and ITVX
