McFly’s Danny Jones is crowned the winner of The Masked Singer

On the final episode of the season, comedian Rob Brydon joined panellists Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall, Mo Gilligan and Rita Ora for the final episode of The Masked Singer.

Cricket, Piranha and Bigfoot took to the stage but it was Cricket who was first to be unmasked as singing legend Lemar. On taking part in the show, Lemar said, “I thought it was going to be fun  but it's been more fun  than I could have imagined. I’m a fan of the show.  Just getting to express yourself on different songs that people maybe wouldn't expect, that’s been a lot of fun.”

The next to be unmasked was Bigfoot who was revealed to be TV presenter and co-host of The Last Leg, Alex Brooker. Alex said, “It was just the most fun.  I love the show, my daughters love this show, they’ve got no idea. Girls,  this is where daddy’s been going all the time, this is why daddy’s been singing in the car!”

Piranha was crowned the winner and was revealed to be McFly singer and guitarist Danny Jones. On being crowned the champion Danny said, “I’ve had the most amazing time, I can escape behind here and just be Piranha and sing these songs.  I’ve learnt so much, I’m able to sing higher now just from being on this show.  I am so happy, thank you!”

Please see below Q&A’s with Lemar, Alex Brooker and Danny Jones for immediate release. Should you use any of the content please credit as follows:

Danny Jones, WINNER

You are the winner of the Masked Singer. How does it feel?

It feels surreal. Everything about this show and everything about what I've just done is completely surreal! I have become a Piranha, and no longer Danny Jones!

How hard is it to keep this a secret?

Very hard and even more so now I’ve won. It's been really difficult because I get excited by stuff very easily and I'm all in when I do something. I'm meant to be on tour. It's been very difficult, but that’s part of the fun, isn’t it?

Do you think that the band will be surprised when they find out you're Piranha?

I think that the boys (in McFy) will be very surprised. I am my own worst enemy, so I'm always like, “That wasn’t very good”, so they always build me up. They’ll guess me straight away.

What do you think of some of the panel's guesses, everything from Tom Grennan, to James Morrison, Donnie Wahlberg and Elton John!

They're all amazing, good guesses. I genuinely thought they would have got me a lot sooner. I think the clues may have put the panel off. There's been a few panellists that I've known. They know my voice. I'm happy with getting compared to Tom Grennan, Brandon Flowers and James Morrison. You know what I mean? I'm happy with that!

How weird is it not knowing who your co-stars are?

Very weird! Not knowing who my co-stars are is very weird. You're obviously always trying to guess or get a sneak look, but it's not possible!. Even though you may know them, if you put someone behind a mask, you second guess yourself anyway. So even when I was watching at home last year, with Charlie (Simpson) I was like, "It's not him!" You're second guessing yourself. It was a fun game to play!

Alex Brooker, RUNNER UP

Congratulations you’ve come second in The Masked Singer.

I can't believe it! I hoped maybe I’d get past one show. I loved singing ‘You're Welcome,’ from Moana. I thought that might get me through one show hopefully. Then after that, never in a million years did I think I’d get this far. Even in the final, I thought I’d be third. It's been amazing. Obviously, I realise I’m not a professional singer as you definitely heard but I just wanted to have a good time and have the audience have a good time, that’s why I picked the songs I did. I love the show, my girls love the show.  I wanted my girls to have a good time watching me.

What do you think your kids will think when they see you on The Masked Singer?

I think they'll be so excited, they are going to love it. They love this show, it's their favourite show. It’s why I did it. I just wanted to look cool to my kids. I would have loved to have won it for them but Piranha is pretty good!

You made it to the final with a BRIT Award winner and somebody who’s played at Glastonbury. How does that make you feel?

That’s absolutely crazy. I’m really proud of myself. When I watch the show, I know that in the previous series there are unbelievable singers. It’s been an absolute privilege.  I love this show, I absolutely love it!   To be a part of it this year, it’s the best thing I’ve done in telly, it’s amazing.

What do you think of our panel’s guesses we’ve had Paul Rudd, Bradley Walsh, Rupert Grint?

I really enjoyed the footballers, I enjoyed Rita sticking with Ian Wright, obviously the goalkeepers, Joe Hart and David Seaman really made me laugh. Rupert Grint made me laugh.  The first week I think it was Ryan Reynolds, I’d love to look like Ryan Reynolds. It's fun, I just thought they’d get me straight away. I love the guesses and I’m looking forward to watching the series and guessing the other characters.

Which of your fellow characters are you looking forward to seeing unmasked?

Piranha is unbelievable, All Coming Back To Me Now is one of my favourite songs and the way that he did it was unbelievable. I’m looking forward to seeing who it is so I can say well done!  So well deserved.   I felt very humbled to even be in the same competition as him.

What are the best and worst things about performing in the costume?

I think it's just fun. I love Bigfoot, I love how cute he is and how cuddly he is. I’m genuinely going to miss dressing up as Bigfoot. As soon as I saw it, I thought I wanted to be that character!   The worst is the heat, it's extreme. I’m a sweaty person.  If anyone has watched me on TV before, Alex Brooker sweats. I’m one of the sweatiest people on TV and I went into one of the sweatiest costumes I could have had.  That was the hardest bit.

You and Joel are mates. Was it hard being on stage and not giving it away?

Oh, so difficult, I haven’t seen Joel since he’s had his baby. It was so difficult. I think Joel may have guessed it was me though because I couldn’t stop myself from laughing and I think he could hear me.

How was it performing with Phoenix tonight?

I was so excited to be performing with Phoenix and also quite humbling. We had a lot of fun up there, that was one of my favourite performances, it was so much fun!

Lemar, RUNNER UP

Why did you decide to take part in The Masked Singer?

I'm a fan of the show.  I like the show.  I like the characters, I like the fun content of it. Once I realised I could be creative and do whatever songs I wanted, I thought yes lets jump straight in!  I didn’t think I’d last that long (on the series) if I’m honest, maybe two or three weeks, but I managed to wiggle it through to the final.

We had some interesting guesses from the panel, Tom Hanks, Seal, Mr Motivator, Stuart Broad, how did you feel about those guesses?

I was laughing, it gave me quite a bit of humour along the way. My name kept coming up a lot so I thought, ‘ahhh I don’t know how much longer I’ll be able to keep this up as they’ve guessed me.’ I’m happy that I’ve got to the final.

When Olly Murs guessed you, were you worried?

When I was told Olly (Murs) was on the panel, I thought, “We’ve known each other for years, he’s 100 percent going to get me.”

What were your favourite things about performing as Cricket?

It's like an alter ego, you get to come out and be fun. You can interact with the kids in the audience. I had a lot of fun doing that.  Luckily singing wasn’t too hard in the costume.  It's quite an experience singing and doing certain notes with something right in front of your face so that was a challenge and the heat inside the costume was immense, but apart from that it was good fun!

How weird is it not knowing who your co-stars are?

It’s strange but also it makes it easier as you choose the songs that you are singing and you go out and sing them, you don’t know what anyone else is singing.

Who of your costars are you most looking forward to seeing unmasked?

All of them.  Dippy Egg and Bigfoot, when they walked past, would give hugs, Maypole and Rat. I'd like to see who they are as well.  I really liked Rat’s energy.

Rita Ora called you the most seductive Cricket. How do you feel about that?

I’ll take that.   I don’t know how you make this costume cool but I gave it a try!
