ITV has commissioned a sixth series of the successful drama Unforgotten, created and written by award-winning screenwriter Chris Lang and produced by Mainstreet Pictures, following overwhelming audience appreciation.

Unforgotten, which first aired in 2015, received widespread critical acclaim and gained a dedicated following on ITV1 and ITVX.  Series five, which concluded tonight on ITV1 (Monday 3 April), is the number 1 series on ITVX so far this year.

The drama, starring Sinéad Keenan and Sanjeev Bhaskar is currently averaging 8.1 million viewers, with episode one of the series having consolidated at an impressive 8.4 million viewers*. The opening episode of series five is also the most watched programme on ITV this year, further cementing Unforgotten as a highly-regarded and well-loved drama series.

Sanjeev Bhaskar and Sinéad Keenan will both reprise their roles as DI Sunil 'Sunny' Khan and DCI Jess James. Their characters have had a complex on-screen relationship that began with tension and conflict, but ultimately developed into a positive dynamic, promising an exciting new partnership for fans to look forward to.

Series six will follow DI Khan and DCI James as they investigate cold cases and unsolved crimes from the past, unravelling secrets and unearthing buried truths along the way. Further casting for the new series will be announced at the time of production.

Each of the new six episodes will be written by Chris Lang who is also known for his work on Innocent, The Hookup Plan, Dark Heart, A Mother’s Son and the recently BAFTA nominated ITV drama The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe.

Unforgotten producers, Mainstreet Pictures, are an ITV Studios label, founded in 2013 by Joint Managing Directors and Executive Producers, Laura Mackie and Sally Haynes.

Mainstreet Pictures has also produced Him for ITV, I Want My Wife Back, Age Before Beauty and Gold Digger for the BBC. An Italian version of Gold Digger is being produced by Cattleya for Netflix.

A Mainstreet production for ITV1. BBC Studios, who distribute the series internationally has so far brought the first five seasons of Unforgotten to over 210 territories worldwide.

Drama Commissioner Huw Kennair-Jones will oversee the production on behalf of ITV.
