Jonathan Ross: Must Watch Films
This month’s Jonathan Ross’ monthly film recommendations will cover the selection of Star Trek films available to stream on ITVX, from the original Motion Picture all the way through to Star Trek: Insurrection. We’ll also be shining a light on Asian Cinema, specifically Japanese historial fantasy film Goemon (2009), 13 Assassins (2010), directed by Takashi Miike and South Korean Western The Good, The Bad and the Weird (2008). Musicals get their moment in the spotlight with reviews of Chicago (2002), Whiplash (2014) and The Blues Brothers (1980) and finally we revisit classic horror-comedy An American Werewolf in London (1981).
Drama Vanishing Act tells the story of Melissa Caddick’s disappearance after being confronted by authorities for her alleged multi-million dollar swindling. The three part series portrays Australia in the grip of the mystery as theories abound about Melissa’s fate following the discovery of her disembodied foot inside her running shoe.
The Real Vanishing Act: The Missing Millionairess
A new ITV documentary will delve into the life of Australian millionairess Melissa Caddick who went for a morning run in Sydney in November 2020 and never returned home.
The story gripped Australia - on the surface she was a successful businesswoman who had everything she ever dreamed of including a family, luxury penthouse and designer wardrobe. But what transpired was that Melissa, a financial advisor, had cheated 74 victims, including her friends and family, out of $AUD23 million.
The Secrets of the Krays
An in-depth look at the most famous gangsters in British history; Secrets of the Krays features revelatory interviews with those who knew the Krays best, including former gang members, relatives and family friends, as well as celebrity photographer and friend David Bailey, the Krays’ lawyers, and police officers involved in bringing them to justice.

Game On
As a teenager have you ever felt that people were always watching you, especially in your most awkward moments? Toby, 14, definitely does. He’s got so many things to deal with: overbearing parents, an annoying younger sister, his changing voice… and a sharp interest in a girl called Jessica. As well, Toby’s attempt to get through the day without too many disasters is being followed – without him knowing – by two sportscasters who comment jokingly on his every move for viewers at home.
Films:
Films available on the platform from 1st August include sci-fi/ fantasy hits Bicentennial Man (1999), District 9 (2009), Ghost in the Shell (1995), The Princess Bride (1987), Super 8 (2011) and Drive Angry (2011). Dramas new to ITVX include Five Easy Pieces (1970), Good Night and Good Luck (2005), Leave No Trace (2018), Lost in Translation (2003), Tea with Mussolini (1999) and The People Vs. Larry Flynt (1996). Martial arts classic Kickboxer (1989), comedy-drama Dope (2015) and horror comedy Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil (2010) will also be available to stream alongside something for the young at heart - My Little Pony: The Movie (2017).

Woven throughout the legal story are the first-person accounts of five Cosby survivors as they confront the impact of sexual trauma with world- renowned physician and best-selling author Gabor Maté.

Familiar faces return with Kris Marshall as determined town developer Tom Parker alongside Kate Ashfield as Mary Parker. Anne Reid’s tour de force Lady Denham is back, as well Jack Fox as Edward Denham and Turlough Convery as Arthur Parker. Season three sees Colbourne’s ward Augusta Markham played by Eloise Webb return, with Kevin Eldon as Reverend Hankins and Adrian Scarborough as Dr Fuchs.
Series three brings viewers back to the burgeoning seaside resort of Sanditon following the romances, friendships, and struggles of Charlotte, Georgiana, the Parker family and the Denhams. But will new visitors to the picturesque coastal town ruffle some feathers amongst our stalwarts of Sanditon?

American Ninja Warrior Junior Series 1
American Ninja Warrior Junior features real kids taking on the iconic course. Nearly 200 boy and girl Junior Ninjas from across the U.S. face off on the same head-to-head courses in three age brackets: 9 and 10, 11 and 12, and 13 and 14 year olds.

The Reunion, the six-part drama based on the French best-seller and starring Ioan Gruffudd, will air on ITV in August.
The French Riviera-set series adapted from Guillaume Musso’s bestselling novel “The Reunion” aka “La Jeune Fille et la Nuit,” shot on location in the south of France with an international cast headlined by Gruffudd (Fantastic Four, Liar), Ivanna Sakhno (Pacific Rim Uprising) and Grégory Fitoussi (Peaky Blinders, Spiral), Dervla Kiwan, Vahina Giocante (Ultimate Heist, Mata Hari), Rupert Graves (Sherlock), Shemss Audat (Spiral, Baron Noir), Cosimo Fusco (Friends, Mentalist), and Salóme Gunnarrsdóttir (Pennyworth, Zack Snyder's Justice League).
Marston Bloom (Selection Day, Marcella) penned the adaptation of Musso’s hit novel, which was originally published in France by Calmann-Lévy in 2018 and in UK by Weidenfeld & Nicolson in 2019 has sold more than two million copies worldwide in more than 35 languages. The story opens in the present day, at a high school reunion in the south of France where three former friends reconnect. They grew apart and lost touch, but they are still bound by a tragic secret tied to the disappearance of a high school girl who went missing 25 years ago in the region.
The Confessions of Frannie Langton
Karla-Simone Spence (Blue Story, Wannabe) leads the cast in the role of Frannie Langton, the drama’s young protagonist born into a life of slavery who is fighting to tell her own story. She is joined by Sophie Cookson (The Trial of Christine Keeler, Kingsman: The Secret Service) as Madame Marguerite Benham and Patrick Martins (Redemption, Blasts From The Past) as Olaudah “Laddie” Cambridge in the murder mystery drama.
Also starring in the historically authentic adaptation is Stephen Campbell Moore (War of The Worlds, The One) as renowned scientist and husband to Madame, George Benham. Joining him are Steven Mackintosh (Rocketman, Wanderlust) as John Langton and Amarah-Jae St. Aubyn (Small Axe) as Sal.
Set against the dazzling opulence of Georgian London, The Confessions of Frannie Langton, narrates Frannie’s journey from a Jamaican plantation to the grand Mayfair mansion of celebrated scientist George Benham and his exquisitely beautiful wife, Madame Marguerite Benham.
The new series - The Tower II: Death Message - is based on Kate London’s brilliant second novel, and is adapted by screenwriter Patrick Harbinson (Homeland, Fearless, 24, ER) and produced by his company Windhover Films and leading production company, Mammoth Screen.
Starring alongside Gemma Whelan as DS Sarah Collins is Tahirah Sharif, who was recently BAFTA-nominated for her role as PC Lizzie Adama, alongside Emmett J Scanlan as DI Kieran Shaw and Jimmy Akingbola as DC Steve Bradshaw.

BritBox UK will be streaming all seasons of The Adventures of Merlin, which focuses on a young Merlin’s adventures in Camelot where magic has been banned, starring Colin Morgan. Pre-apocalyptic drama series Hard Sun starring Agyness Deyn will also be made available to subscribers alongside the first series of Northern Irish crime drama Hope Street.
