BritBox November 2022 Highlights

London, November 3rd: BritBox UK today announced content launching on the service this month.

Highlights include family favourite films The Snowman, The Wind in the Willows starring Bob Hoskins and Swallows and Amazons starring Rafe Spall and Kelly Macdonald.

Subscribers can also look forward to tense drama Vigil, starring Suranne Jones, which streams from 17th November.

3rd November

Between the Lines S1-S3 (1992)

All seasons of the powerful and controversial cop TV drama that ran from 1992-1994, set in the Metropolitan Complaints Investigation Bureau. CIB: the police for the police. Loathed by fellow officers and treated with suspicion by the public, their's is a grey world of corruption and one that leaves rising star Superintendent Tony Clark (Neil Pearson) cold. Reluctantly involved in the beginning, he finds that now there is no going back. As the taste of his promotion turns sour, he finds himself well and truly caught between the lines…

Criminal Justice S1 & S2 (2008)

In this Award Winning Drama Series, two different criminal cases spawn two nightmarish journeys through the British criminal justice system of two people who must live with the actions and consequences of one night for the rest of their lives. Starring Ben Whishaw, Maxine Peak, Bill Paterson and Pete Postlethwaite.

Drifters S1-S4 (2013 - 2016)

When you've spent your loan in another continent and returned home to become your parents' worst nightmare, your name is the only thing that's true on your CV and you'll do way too much to get a free drink, that's when you know you're a Drifter. Meg (Jessica Knappett) is 24 and she's on her second gap year. In Leeds. She would be getting herself a ‘cool arty media-y job' but life seems to be getting in the way a bit. She hasn't had sex in twelve months, her ex won't leave her alone and her work uniform is a mobile phone. Her two best mates, Bunny (Lydia Rose Bewley) and Laura (Lauren O'Rourke) are going through a similar quarter life crisis.

Bride & Prejudice (2004)

East meets West in this exuberant musical Bollywood remake of the Jane Austen novel. When Mr Balraj (Naveen Andrews) - a highly eligible bachelor - arrives from London to take up residence next door to the Bakshi family, he causes quite a stir: the Bakshis have four unmarried daughters, and have high hopes for their new neighbour. But Lalita (Aishwarya Rai), their clever and headstrong second daughter, is skeptical about her family's plans, and when she meets Mr Balraj's best friend, American hotelier Will Darcy (Martin Henderson), she is confirmed in the belief that her reservations are well-placed.

Beyond Borders (2003)

Sarah Jordan (Angelina Jolie) is an American living in London in the early 1980s. She is married to wealthy Henry Bauford (Linus Roache) when she meets relief worker Nick Callahan (Clive Owen) at a charity benefit. Nick's plea for help to support his relief efforts in war-torn Africa move Sarah and she joins his crusade, embarking on a journey of discovery to Cambodia.

The Snowman (1982)

Raymond Briggs' classic animated tale about a snowman that comes magically to life after the chimes of midnight, and - along with the little boy who built him - sets off on a series of amazing adventures. Includes the hit single 'Walking in the Air' sung by chorister Aled Jones.

10th November

Unforgiven (2009)

Unforgiven tells the story of Ruth Slater (Suranne Jones) who has spent the past 15 years imprisoned for the murder of two policemen, and now faces the daunting prospect of rebuilding her life whilst being irresistibly drawn to the place that haunts her, Upper Hanging Stones Farm. In spite of trying to focus on the future and her new boyfriend Brad (Will Mellor), Ruth is unable to forget her past and the sister, Katie, who she was forced to leave behind.

Shackleton (1983)

A gripping four-part drama about the great explorer's epic Antarctic expeditions, based on Shackleton’s own journals. Having had a taste of Antarctic adventure on Captain Scott s failed 1901 bid to reach the South Pole, seven years later Ernest Shackleton (David Schofield) leads his own expedition. Agonisingly close to reaching the Pole, the men have to pull back in an appalling blizzard to reach their ship before the advancing ice cuts off the passage home. By 1911 Roald Amundsen has reached the Pole and Scott and his men, trailing in the Norwegian s wake, have perished. Undeterred, in 1914 Shackleton and his trusted deputy Frank Wild (David Rodigan) set out on their most famous journey aboard Endurance, with the aim of crossing the icy continent from sea to sea.

The Wind in the Willows (2006)

Shy Mole leaves his hole one spring and is entranced by the world he discovers along the riverbank. Befriended by the water-loving Rat, he soon encounters Mr. Toad, an enthusiastic and mischievous lover of all new things, especially fast cars. Bob Hoskins and Matt Lucas head an all-star cast in a lavish adaptation of Kenneth Grahame’s children’s classic.

Swallows and Amazons (2016)

Kelly Macdonald and Rafe Spall star in this family adventure adapted from Arthur Ransome's classic novel set in the 1920s. While on holiday in the Lake District with their mother Mrs. Walker (Macdonald) four siblings - John (Dane Hughes), Susan (Orla Hill), Tatty (Teddie-Rose Malleson-Allen) and Roger (Bobby McCulloch) - set sail on a boat named Swallow and discover an island.

17th November

Vigil (2021)

The deeper you go, the darker it gets. When a sailor is found dead on submarine HMS Vigil, DCI Silva uncovers a conspiracy. Tense drama from the producers of Line of Duty starring Suranne Jones, Rose Leslie and Martin Compston.

Martina Cole’s Ladykillers (2008)

British crime writer Martina Cole looks at the life and crimes of female serial killers.

Sharpe S6 &S7 (2007, 2008)

Sixth and seventh installments of the British television drama series starring Sean Bean as Richard Sharpe, a fictional British soldier in the Napoleonic Wars.

Super Sleuths (2006)

Super Sleuths is a six part documentary series that examines the script to screen journeys of six of ITV's premier detectives. In the company of cast and crew, literary experts and afficianadoes we trace the literary origins of; Inspector Morse, Wycliffe, Jack Frost, Poirot, Inspector Barnaby and Inspector Wexford.

Revisiting Brideshead (2005)

Documentary with an affectionate look back at the classic Granada TV dramatisation of Evelyn Waugh's famous novel Brideshead Revisited.

24th November

Absolute Power (2003)

Stephen Fry and John Bird star in this hilarious BBC satire set in the cynical world of public relations where truth is an optional extra and no job is too grubby, so long as it pays well...

The Ice House (1997)

Daniel Craig stars in one of his earliest roles in this adaptation of award-winning crime novelist Minette Walters’ literary debut. Ten years ago, Phoebe Maybury's hateful husband David disappeared from Streech Grange. Now a naked, unidentifiable corpse has been discovered in the icehouse on the Grange, and Inspectors Walsh (Corin Redgrave) and McLoughlin (Craig) have to decide whose it is, whether he was murdered, and who killed him.

Comic Asides: KYTV Pilot (1989)

Satirical sketch show based on radio series Radio Active, spoofing the newly launched Sky Television and its 24-hour news channel.
