Hundreds of people in Somerset who were without gas because of a leak caused by contractors now have their supplies again.

The issue affected around 200 homes in the Hatch Beauchamp area on Wednesday 31 October.

Wales & West Utilities said third-party contractors working in the area had "damaged the gas network" and at the time were unable to confirm when gas was going to be restored to the area.

We now have to visit all homes in the area to turn their gas supplies off so we can repair the damage and safely turn the gas back on. We do not yet know how long this will take, but our engineers will be working around the clock to resolve this issue as safely and as quickly as possible.

– Darryl Goddard, Wales & West Utilities Area Engineering Manager for South West England

Wales & West Utilities said they visited each home to safely turn their gas supply back on and relight appliances.
