Dog owners fight Weymouth beach ban

More than 2,000 people have signed a petition against a ban on dogs using Weymouth beach for seven months of the year.

Weymouth and Portland Borough Council increased the ban in 2016 to cover Easter through to October, but campaigners want that reduced. Dog owners say a seven-month ban is too long and want it limited to the summer season.

The campaigners say the longer ban has led to a drop in visitors and loss in trade for cafes and kiosks along the seafront.

They want residents in Weymouth and Portland to back their petition.
