This Sunday will see a day of fundraising in memory of a Bristol teenager who lost his life to meningitis last month.

George Zographou showed symptoms of meningitis while attending Boardmaster’s festival in Cornwall.

He later died from the rare meningitis B strain.

George would have celebrated his 19th birthday this week.

The fundraiser will feature a special football match with ex professional players from local clubs including Bristol City’s Louis Carey.

There will also be a book of condolences for people to sign and pictures of George will be played in a slide show on a screen inside the clubhouse.

Organisers say all money raised will be split between Meningitis Now and the Royal Cornwall Hospital, who looked after George in his final hours.

George's sister Nicola says the event has provided the family with comfort knowing they are raising awareness of meningitis.

We hope as many people who are able to, come along on Sunday. Hopefully the atmosphere and sense of community on the day will provide everyone with some sense of hope in this dark time.

The event will be held at Brislington FC from midday on Sunday, with the football match kicking off at 1.00pm.
