A Thomson Airways flight to Bristol from Orlando in Florida had to turn back over the Atlantic after two crew members fell ill.

The plane was due to land in Bristol earlier today but had to return an hour after leaving America's east coast.

The airline said it was a medical emergency and that the safety of customers and crew was of primary importance.

Passengers were taken to local hotels and are due to arrive back at Bristol airport early tomorrow morning.

Thomson Airways would like to apologise for any inconvenience to our customers on board flight TOM375 travelling from Orlando to Bristol which was diverted back to Orlando International Airport due to a medical emergency.

We have provided all passengers with food and accommodation whilst we wait to board them onto their new flight which is due to depart at 21.25 GMT.

The safety of our customers and crew is of paramount importance to us and we would like to reassure everyone that events such as these are rare.
