Inquiry underway after glider pilot dies

An experienced glider pilot has been killed in a crash on Dartmoor.

Matt Wright died when his glider crashed on Sunday lunchtime near Brentor in west Devon.

Members of the public alerted the emergency services and the Air Accident Investigation Branch is on the scene gathering evidence.

Devon and Cornwall police said there are no suspicious circumstances.

Mr Wright, who was in his 40s and from Tiverton, Devon, was flying alone at the time.

AAIB inspectors arrived late yesterday and their examination on site began early this morning. We expect them to be on site gathering evidence for the rest of today and into tomorrow. The wreckage will then be brought back to our facility in Farnborough for detailed examination as our investigation progresses.
