The westbound carriageway of the A38 has now re-opened after the old bridge at Merafield was demolished. Police say the eastbound carriageway is likely to stay closed until later this evening.

Diversion routes are said to be very congested. People heading from Cornwall are advised to use the A30.

Local users are advised to use the B3416.
