David Hempleman-Adams reveals his stockings

The adventurer David Hempleman-Adams has been sworn in as High Sheriff of Wiltshire.

He's famous for his feats of endurance in hot air balloons, up mountains and in the polar wastes but this is a whole new role.

As you can see, David Hempleman-Adams has had to wear some pretty natty kit during his travels - but nothing to compare with his new uniform.

ITV News asked him what his new role involved - and he revealed, well, see for yourself:

The explorer from Box was invited by the Queen to hold the ancient office. It is unpaid and involves attending royal events and laying on hospitality for visiting High Court judges, as well as the wearing of stockings.

David Hempleman-Adams has promised to give up exploring for his year of office - but no doubt will be planning his next "feet".
