Campaign to move transgender woman from male prison

More than 100,000 people signed a petition to have a transgender woman moved from HMP Bristol, where she was sent by Bath Magistrates Court to serve a 12-week sentence for assault. She was later moved to a female prison.

A transgender woman who was sent to a male prison, and then moved to a female one after protests, has been released, leaving prison with her mother.

Tara Hudson has lived her adult life as a woman but was sent to the all-male HMP Bristol after she admitted assault.

More than 150,000 people signed a petition for her to be moved. She was then transferred to the women's prison Eastwood Park in Gloucestershire.

There have been two recent cases of transgender women being found dead in male prisons.
