An appeal is taking place today in the case of a transgender woman from Bath ordered to serve a sentence at a male prison.

Tara Hudson was given a 12-week sentence at Bristol Prison by magistrates despite the 26-year-old having lived as a woman her whole adult life.

A petition calling for her to be moved has been signed by more than 115,000 people, and fears for her safety have increased after reports that she had been sexually harassed in the prison.

Supporters of Tara are planning to gather outside Bristol Crown Court, while a concurrent protest takes place in London.
