A young soldier who has served in Afghanistan has been murdered on the streets of his home town.

Dave Curnow, 20, died today (Monday 21 September) from injuries he sustained in a brutal attack in the early hours of Sunday.

A member of the public found him unconscious on the ground following an assault outside a nightclub in Redruth, Cornwall at 2.45am.

He suffered serious head injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Royal Cornwall Hospital before being transferred to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth where he died.

People have taken to twitter and Facebook to pay their respects.

So sad, Dave was in my first tutor group at Pool business and enterprise college when I joined as a TA. Cheeky chappy but always laughing and joking and one off the lads.

Will be sadly missed by all that knew him. RIP DAVE CURNOW

Connor Hammond, 21, of Redruth and Liam Laing, 21, of Truro are due before magistrates tomorrow (Tuesday 22 September) charged with his murder.
